SAN DIEGO (CBS 8/CNS) - Military officials held a news conference Tuesday morning at Naval Medical Center San Diego regarding the reports of an active shooter near building 26. They confirmed that after an initial sweep, no evidence of a shooting was found and no injuries were reported.
The unconfirmed report of shots fired around 8:00 a.m. at Naval Medical Center San Diego in Balboa Park prompted a lockdown of the facility and nearby schools as law enforcement officers flooded the area and police dogs searched a building.
A witness reported hearing three shots come from the basement of building 26, which houses a gym and barracks, according to Navy Region Southwest.
Military police and working dogs conducted an initial search, then turned to a more thorough floor-by-floor sweep, according to Navy officials. SWAT teams were also clearing buildings, according to reports from the scene.
Navy spokesman Jon Nylander said no evidence of a shooting had been found as of about 10:10 a.m., no casualties had been reported and no one was believed to have been taken into custody.
Officials at the medical center, commonly known as Balboa Hospital, initially urged those already at the facility to "run, hide or fight," as law enforcement officers swarmed the compound. Others, including non-emergency response personnel, were asked to stay away.
Authorities at Naval Base San Diego said via Facebook those in the vicinity should shelter in place.
"If in immediate danger, hide or seek shelter in secure space," the message stated. "Barricade the door and dial 911. Silence phones and other devices. Stay away from doors and windows. Remain calm and quiet."
Shortly after 9 a.m., Navy officials announced that the entire complex had been secured, including its childcare facilities, and no one was being allowed access. All children were said to be accounted for and safe.
Nearby Roosevelt Middle, and Garfield and San Diego High schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to the San Diego Unified School District. The lockdown was later lifted, as was a subsequent order for students to shelter in place.

انتهت انتخابات اتحاد مصدري الأقطان، بفوز كل من "معتز الإدكاوي" نائب رئيس لجنة النسيج بالجمعية المصرية لشباب الأعمال بمنصب وكيل اتحاد مصدري الأقطان، والمهندس نبيل السنتريسي بمنصب رئيس الاتحاد، بالإضافة إلى اختيار سوسن وهبي – "رئيس مجلس ﺇدارة والعضو المنتدب لشركة الشرقية لتصدير الأقطان" وكيلًا للمجلس، وعزة رشوان "رئيس مجلس ﺇدارة والعضو المنتدب لشركة الوادي لحليج الأقطان" سكرتير مالي وﺇداري.
من جانبه قال معتز الإدكاوي، إن الاتحاد يهدف بتشكيلة الجديد ﺇلى العمل علي تنمية تجارة الأقطان المصرية مع الجهات الداخلية والخارجية، وذلك لتحقيق أهدافه لتنمية قطاع القطن المصري، بالإضافة إلى التعاون مع وزارتي الزراعة والتجارة والصناعة لوضع الخطط الزراعية والخريطة الخاصة بالقطن المصري للعام القادم.
وأضاف الإدكاوي، أن الاتحاد يسعي- بالتعاون مع مركز بحوث القطن- إلى استنباط أصناف جديدة والعمل على تحسين سلالات الأقطان المنزرعة في الوقت الحالي، ومضاعفتها سنويًا؛ بهدف الوصول إلى إنتاجية وجودة عالية، مؤكدًا أنه يجري التنسيق مع وزارة التجارة والصناعة لبحث آليات تجارة القطن مما يتيح الوصول ﺇلى حلول في تسعير الأقطان، وحتى يتمكن الفلاح من الحصول على عائد مادي مرضي يتضمن مصاريفه ومكسبا مجزيا له.
يذكر أن اتحاد مصدري الأقطان تم تأسيسه عام 1932، ويتكون من الأفراد والشركات العاملة في مجال تصدير الأقطان المصرية.

France's justice minister resigns over objections to terrorism bill
PARIS - France's justice minister unexpectedly resigned Wednesday after objecting to President Francois Hollande's push to revoke citizenship from convicted terrorists with dual nationality.
Hollande announced Christiane Taubira's resignation Wednesday - just ahead of a Cabinet meeting, and hours before a Parliament commission takes up the citizenship bill.
Taubira, a devoted leftist best known for championing the legalization of gay marriage, tweeted that "sometimes to resist is to remain, sometimes to resist is to leave."
Taubira, from French Guiana on the Caribbean coast, has been a pioneer for women and minorities in French politics.
She had suffered tensions in the past with centre-leaning Prime Minister Manuel Valls. Taubira is being replaced by Jean-Jacques Urvoas, a lawmaker from Brittany who is considered a specialist of security issues within the Socialist Party - and seen as close to Valls.
The citizenship bill, prompted by the Paris attacks Nov. 13, is popular among conservatives and the far right but is especially divisive for the governing Socialists. Polls show most French support the idea, but opponents fear it would unfairly target Muslims, and some compare it to the revocation of citizenship of French Jews during World War II.
French and Belgian extremists linked to the Islamic State group, some of Moroccan descent, were behind the Paris attacks, which killed 130 and wounded hundreds.
Taubira was scheduled to travel Wednesday to the United States, where she was to meet with Attorney General Loretta Lynch and members of Black Lives Matter, and receive an honorary degree from the University of Wisconsin.
